1-Week Summer STAR Program Options (7th-12th Grade):
Art Camp: 6/25/23-7/1/23
Campers will work on multiple projects during the 1-week camp with two main projects in multimedia and plaster painting. Campers will complete plaster work and painting on canvas to make a textured piece of art. Campers will also have the opportunity to take trips to The Art Spot and VECA Art Gallery.
Introduction to Information Technology and Cyber Security: 6/25/23-7/1/23
We live in a world that is becoming increasingly dependent on technology, information technology and cybersecurity is a topic of growing importance. It is crucial that individuals take the time to understand the benefits and danger of living in a digital age. Understanding the precautions need to protect themselves from the growing threat of cyber-attacks and the appropriate use of technology is vital. This camp open the doors for campers to understand technology, and gaining an understanding for crucial skills for prospering in a digital future. This 1-week camp will cover topics such as:
- What is technology, and what technology is vulnerable to cyber-attack?
- What is cyber security and what are the potential threats?
- Why is cyber security important?
- What is the internet and what does it encompass?
- Do and dont’s with the internet.
- Cyber Security Best practices.
Drama Camp: 6/25/23-7/1/23 or 7/2/23-7/8/23
Drama camp provides an experiential opportunity for campers to gain self-confidence through a mix of activities within a theatrical framework. Attendees will learn improvisational exercises and techniques to foster creativity and promote teamwork in a safe and fun environment. All campers will have the opportunity to explore the various elements of theater, including technical and acting roles and will show-case what they have learned in a one-act production that will be performed in front of a live audience at the end of camp. In addition, students will also attend at least one theatrical performance in order to fully appreciate all aspects of the performing arts.
5-Week Summer STAR Program Options:
Colonels Camp (5th-8th grade)
Colonels Camp is designed to be educational yet FUN for our middle school campers! Each week will have a theme to include Liberal Arts, STEM, Outdoor Adventures, Military History, and Aerospace while learning leadership, citizenship, life skills, discipline and respect. Each week there will be 2 field trips related to each week’s theme and a swim day. Students can choose from 2- 5 week options.
JROTC (9th-12th grade)
Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, or JROTC, is a high school elective program whose mission is to teach students citizenship, leadership, character, and community service. The core values are at the heart of JROTC, whose creed emphasizes working to better the cadet’s family, school, and country.This leadership training program is a 5 week session open to grades 9 through 12. Participants will earn one transferrable high school credit. Students must attend all 5 weeks.
Program activities include:
- Small Boat Operations
- Rappelling
- Learn & Practice Communication Skills & Active Listening
- Rope Bridge
- Land Navigation (day and night) and Bivouac
- Learn and Apply Conflict Resolution Techniques
- Learn Importance of Drill and Military Discipline
Summer School (7th-12th grade)
We are offering a 5 week summer school program available to grades 7-12. Students can take two repeat courses or one repeat course and study skills or SAT prep course*. High school credit is awarded for the high school repeat courses completed.
