Massanutten Military Academy

Meet the Head of School

Note from Kim Elshafie-Layman, Head of School

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Massanutten! I look forward to meeting and working with you for the 2021-22 school year.

As you may already know, Massanutten Military Academy is an international school with cadets from all over the United States and countries from around the world. Our diversity and global mindedness make our Corps of Cadets unique and our shared experiences special.

One thing that makes us stand out from the rest is our cadet experience. We focus on all aspects of being a cadet: academics, cadet life, and athletics.

Our cadets enjoy a wide range of academics courses including core classes, AP, dual-enrollment, fine arts, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

Cadet life encompasses all activity outside of academics and athletics. The focus of cadet life is to teach cadets the skills needed to harmoniously live and work with others through collaboration.

All high school cadets participate in sports each season. Our middle school cadets have physical education each day. We firmly believe athletics allows our cadets to become leaders and teammates. The cadets build camaraderie and learn how to work together with one common goal- putting forth your best effort each and every time you play.

Massanutten cares deeply about our cadets having the opportunity to learn and grow spiritually. Every Sunday we offer a non-denominational chapel service for cadets to attend. All cadets are invited to attend the service. There is also an option for cadets to choose a local church to attend, and MMA provides the transportation to and from to ensure our cadets receive the same opportunities for worship they would have if they were home.

At MMA, we embrace experiential learning for all cadets. Faculty members strive to provide hands-on opportunities, exciting real-world activities, and relevant field trips to create an environment of critical thinking and reflection.

If your child is not currently enrolled at MMA, please schedule a campus tour. You will love what you see! Our admissions team contact information is 540-459-2167 ext. 1 or [email protected]. They are happy to assist you with your needs.

MMA is proudly accredited by VAIS (Virginia Association of Independent Schools) and Advance-Ed.

Sincerely,

Kim Elshafie-Layman
