According to CNN Money, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) jobs are growing at 1.7 times the rate of non-stem jobs. CNN Money also reports that there are simply not enough candidates in the United States to fill them. A background in STEM can prepare students for futures in everything from engineering, health care, law, education and more.
Did you know that only 36% of high school students are prepared for college-level science courses? Massanutten Military Academy recognizes the demand and need for STEM. Being a STEM focused school, we are committed to preparing students for their future career successes. Our cadets learn through a hands-on approach based on the “Project Lead the Way” curriculum.
All cadets at MMA participate in STEM courses each year. Middle school students learn concepts such as biomedical, engineering, energy and the environment. High school students can focus their study in either biomedical, engineering, or computer science.
In addition to regular courses offered in STEM subjects during the academic school year, MMA offers two summer STEM programs for both middle and high school students. These camp sessions are designed to give students in grades 6-12 the opportunity to explore the world of STEM. The knowledge obtained during these sessions will not only prepare students for their coursework at MMA, but also for their higher education and career paths.
Subjects that will be covered during these sessions include Energy and the Environment, Computer Science, Engineering, Flight and Space, and Bio-Medical. Upon completion of the STEM Camp, participants will receive a certificate of completion for the courses.
At MMA, we recognize the demand for STEM and want to help your student have a front row seat in the exciting future of this rapidly-growing industry in the United States. In July, MMA will offer our middle school session from July 1 through July 7 and a session the following week July 8 through July 14 for high school students. Sign up early and receive a $50 early enrollment discount. Learn more about all of our summer programs at militaryschool.com or by contacting our admissions office: 540-459-2167 ext. 1.
