We understand how starting at a new school in the middle of the year could alarm parents and students alike. However, a military boarding school offers a great alternative to a traditional school setting. Attending such an institution comes with many advantages, including a learner-centered education, a structured curriculum and mentorship, high-quality curriculum and activities, and online education.
Massanutten Military Academy provides a holistic approach to education for students around the globe. Our method encourages cadets to become well-rounded citizens and students, allowing them to reach their full potential. Moreover, our academy offers a wide range of academic options, including STEM courses. Connect with our Admissions Team or book a campus tour today to learn about our academics and extracurriculars.
Below, we discuss how your child can benefit from mid-year enrollment at Massanutten:
- Personalized Learning with Small Class Sizes
Every new student needs time to adjust to a new school and routine. Naturally, parents and guardians are concerned about their child fitting in or feeling lost in class due to large student populations.
However, our academy’s student-to-teacher ratio of 10:1 provides cadets with a learner-centered education. Even if they start mid-year, your child can pick up coursework right where they left off. Read our cadet testimonials and see how our approach helped them grow and succeed.
- Smooth Transition through Our Mentorship Program
Students who start school mid-year also take part in our Mentorship Program. They are paired with a faculty/staff mentor, with whom they meet weekly to discuss grades, goals, and life in general.
Our mentors also help students plan and participate in community service opportunities throughout the year. Finally, each mentor serves as the main point of contact for the student’s parent(s) and/or guardian(s).
- Quality Curriculum & Extracurriculars
Massanutten offers a full STEM program with faculty and staff trained by Project Lead the Way. We also provide Honors and AP courses, Dual Enrollment Courses, and JROTC courses to develop cadets’ leadership skills.
Additionally, our superior academics, extracurricular activities, and exciting social activities in the Hayes Activity Center (HAC) allow our new students to have some fun and make friends.
- Online Education Options Available
As learner-centered education has evolved, we’ve realized the need for in-person and virtual learning options. So, we developed an online education program for new students to attend class virtually during regular hours with live instruction through our Canvas Learning Management System.
Furthermore, the system records all classes and lessons then makes them available to students who miss a class. Regardless of their learning environment, students’ days will remain consistent to support executive functioning skills and maintain the coherence of instructions.
- Safe & Structured Learning Environment
Massanutten’s motto “Non Nobis Solum” (Not for Ourselves Alone) emphasizes building an environment of camaraderie among our faculty, staff, and cadets. Our safe and structured environment allows our cadets to achieve their highest potential and form strong bonds with peers and mentors regardless of their race, age, gender identity, ethnicity, family composition, ability, religion, and socioeconomic status.
