What is Our Approach to Education?
At Massanutten Military Academy we don’t JUST focus on academics. Instead, we focus on helping your student become a well-rounded human being.
Now, in reality what does that mean? This means that while academics are a huge section of cadet life, they are not the only thing we focus on. For example, our senior project this year will partner with the STEM program to create an environmentally friendly, sustainable plan for the Academy to reduce its environmental impact. The STEM department has already planted a garden that will help supply the dining hall and are working on a rain barrel system to water it. Participating in experiments and projects like these don’t just teach the science, they also instill a sense of social responsibility and how our small steps can impact the larger picture.
The second largest factor in creating a well-rounded student at MMA is participating in JROTC and becoming a part of the Corps of Cadets. Our military structure focuses on leadership skills, taking initiative, and a commitment to service. Our motto here at Massanutten Military Academy is Non Nobis Solum, Not for Ourselves Alone, and you can read here about the many different events our cadets take part in throughout the community. We are not an isolated campus on a hill, just as they will not be isolated individuals throughout life. Here they learn how to lead, how to follow, how to present ideas, and most importantly how to be a part of something much larger than themselves.
So, yeah, these are all great traits for your student to have, but does this help them get into college? According to CollegeBoard, yes it does. A good GPA or a high score on a standardized test is still looked at, but colleges are looking for so much more in a student now. They want a student who is going to complement and enhance the experience on their campus, and, according to an admissions director from the University of Tulsa, what schools want, we teach.

You know your child can do more but is not getting the attention needed in their current environment to reach their full potential. We know that choosing the right school for your child can be difficult because each child is so unique.
