How JROTC Fits into the Massanutten Curriculum

Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is a key educational opportunity at Massanutten Military Academy. Through this program, cadets hone their leadership capabilities, physical health, and life skills in ways that benefit them in the classroom, on the field, and beyond. Core JROTC values of discipline, citizenship, teamwork, and service fit naturally into our military school's curriculum.

At Massanutten, all cadets are enrolled in this enriching program. Our Corps of Cadets is led by the Senior Army Instructor, LTC (RET) Lester Layman.

Benefits of participating in a high school JROTC program include the following:
  • Leadership Development: Hands-on experiences such as cadet chains of command, daily inspections, and presentations encourage cadets to develop confidence, public speaking skills, and the ability to inspire others.
  • Life Skills: JROTC programs emphasize crucial life skills, including goal setting, time management, and personal accountability.
  • Physical Fitness: Physical training sessions and activities are designed to build a healthy foundation of strength and endurance.
  • Self-Confidence: JROTC provides a supportive environment for cadets to challenge themselves and grow into their responsibilities.
JROTC at Massanutten is a challenging, rewarding, and empowering program that produces well-rounded students. To learn more about extracurricular opportunities at our institution, contact the Admissions Office today!

Every Student Deserves to be Known
At Massanutten Academy, every student matters.  We develop honorable young people of character through an intentionally personal educational experience in which students are known, challenged, encouraged, and supported.

Here, education is purposeful.  Through academics, athletics, leadership opportunities, mentorship, service, and community, students discover their strengths, develop confidence, and learn to accomplish hard things.

We develop young people of character and competence prepared for college, leadership, and life. Honor in Character. Excellence in Purpose. Leadership in Service.

This is The Massanutten Way.
