Ms. Elshafie’s English 11 Class Holds Mock Trial

On Monday in English 11 class, the cadets held a mock trial of the main character in the short story they read last week. The cadets were assigned parts for the trial: defendant, defense attorneys, prosecution attorneys, and witnesses. LTC Layman’s LET II class served as the jury. The LET II cadets are learning about the court system and how it works, so this served as a great cross-curricular activity.

The cadets used critical thinking and public speaking skills to develop the scenario and to present the material to the mock jury. The experience was enjoyed by all and the cadets are looking forward to doing other experiential learning activities in their classes. One cadet stated he had never done anything like this in an English class before. It is an activity he will never forget!

At MMA, our teachers look for innovative ways to not just teach to our cadets but to give them hands-on experiences about what it is that they are learning. The students enjoy our classes and they retain better knowledge of their subjects. We believe this is school as it should be!
