Since the Colonels returned to campus last month, head coach Chad Myers has been able to notice key differences in this year’s team. For starters, they share the basketball which helps with the second trait, there aren’t just one or two scorers like last year. So far, the Colonels have a couple of players with this ability, which should lead to a collective effort for scoring this season.
According to Myers on Friday afternoon, the Colonel’s starters look to include point guard Dereon Seabron, two-guard Jarren McAllister, small forward Brandon Suggs, returning MMA center Mahamadou Diawara. It will be between Jarvis Vaughan, Connor Withers and Nate Spurlock for the four spot on the starting five.
Since the team has began workouts, MMA has had 48 NCAA Division I schools visit campus to view this year’s roster, including coaches from N. C. State, VCU and Oklahoma State. All of the prospective starting five have received interest from numerous schools that have visited, and Myers expects to see more attend practices before the end of the live period in October.
The Colonel’s first exhibition game will be held on October 16th against Oak Hill Academy, which will preceed the regular-season play on October 27th.
