MMA might get the chance to see a familiar face in the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Former postgraduate basketball player and Kansas point guard, Frank Mason, is said to be attending the USA World Cup qualifying team training camp from September 9th through 13th in Las Vegas.

The 2017 consensus college player of the year will be one of 14 men vying for a spot on the 12-man team. If Mason makes the team, he will play in the second round qualifying games against Uruguay on September 14th in Las Vegas and Panama on September 17th in Panama City. These games come after the US placed first in Group C after they went 5-1 in the first round.

In November 2017, MMA welcomed Mason back with the retirement of his No. 3 Colonels jersey. During his time playing for the Colonels, Mason led them to their first ever No. 1 national ranking title and their second straight stint in the invitation-only National Prep Championship Elite 8.

After the second round qualifying games, a total of seven teams will qualify to play in the World Cup in September 2019 in China. MMA wishes Mason and team USA the best of luck!
