Why a Military School?

Military Boarding School

There is a common misconception about military school. It is not a boot camp. It is not a detention center for students unable to make it in public school. It is not preparation for a career in the military. In actuality, military school is the same as any other school, but it is better. It provides students with much needed discipline and structure. It allows students to grow into the best people they can be. Military schools teach students how to become good citizens and leaders. They are taught the skills needed to thrive and excel in academics, athletics, and cadet life.

When a parent is looking for a private school that offers an education above and beyond that of public school, military schools are often overlooked. But, if parents delve deeper into what is offered at a military school, they will find challenging curriculum, dedication to sports and cadet development, and opportunities for leadership. The offerings are plentiful.

Classroom sizes are relatively small, often with a student to teacher ratio of 10:1 or less. At Massanutten Military Academy, academics don’t end with just the traditional core courses. At MMA, every student is in one of four STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) tracks. Every student also takes a Leadership course. High School students take Army JROTC while middle schoolers take a JROTC developed leadership course. MMA also offers electives such as art, band and drama.

There is also the bonds of friendship and camaraderie that are formed. Nothing brings students closer together than the shared experiences of teamwork, overcoming challenges, and the sharing of a common belief in the school and one another.

If you are thinking about sending your student to a private school, strongly consider looking into a military school. The sense of pride and accomplishment will remain with your student for a lifetime.
