Each year many schools have Homecoming celebrations in which they invite alumni to return to their alma mater to relive the glory days, share stories of their years in attendance, and see what the school has become. September 30th – October 1st, Massanutten Military Academy hosted it’s annual Homecoming celebrations with many events for current cadets, parents, and alumni.
This year’s Homecoming featured events like: the Alumni Hall of Fame Induction; the retiring of MMA Alum and University of Maryland basketball player, Damonte Dodd’s jersey; an emotional Last Roll Call ceremony; the Dedication of Beaucham Field; and, of course, our Homecoming football game and dance.
Despite the inclement weather, this year we welcomed back the Classes of 1966, 1991, and 2006 for their 50th, 25th, and 10th reunions. Each class had much to say about the changes and improvements to the school since they attended, with the most notable change for the Class of ’66 being that Massanutten is now a co-ed military boarding school.
However, Homecoming isn’t just a time to reminisce but a chance for our alumni to return to campus to inspire our current cadets, and this year was no different. We welcomed back former cadets that have gone on to serve as Army Captains, professional athletes, educators, U.N. Ambassadors, and more, all of whom encourage our students to continue to work hard to achieve their goals.
We always enjoy seeing alumni and hearing their stories of where life has taken them after MMA and how they continue to live “not for themselves alone”. If you’re an alum, we’d like to encourage you to keep in touch.
