Massanutten Military Academy is pleased to announce the recipient of the Steve and Kim Rehman Scholarship is Cadet Thomas. She is a rising 9th grader at Massanutten. Thomas attended MMA’s Summer STAR program in 2019 for Colonels Camp. Thomas explains her journey in attending MMA:
“I had many preconceived notions about attending a military school, such as not having the freedom that you typically would if you went to a public or private school. When I arrived at MMA in the summer of 2019, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The first thing that I noticed was that the cadets were wearing their white over gray (uniform). I was in awe by the sight of them because they were well-dressed, everything was meticulous. The summer went by so quickly and before I knew it, I was heading back home. I couldn’t stop myself from admitting to my Dad how much I loved being there. I told him I wanted to come back for the school year. He asked me to give him my main reasons why, and I told him during the summer I learned how working with others was crucial, I learned that in just a few weeks the people you meet can become family, I learned how to become more responsible in every way.”
Kim Elshafie-Layman, Head of School, conveyed her appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Rehman for their generosity in creating this scholarship opportunity, “the Rehman’s steadfast commitment to the cadets and MMA is unwavering. Words cannot express the sincere appreciation we have for their continued support of the Academy. Cadet Thomas embodies the values and commitment that Mr. and Mrs. Rehman created the scholarship around.”
