Did you ever think biology could be tasty? Well, in Ms. Conway’s biology class, it was just that! During their study of mitosis, which is the division of cells, cadets visually created the five phases. Middle school cadets used Oreos as the nucleus to stick sprinkles onto, which represented the chromosomes to create each of these five phases.
This hands-on lesson is part of MMA’s devotion to creating more experiential learning experiences in the classroom. With each activity, cadets get to reinforce concepts through creation with their hands and reflection on what they created. Thanks to Ms. Conway’s inclusion of this learning style, cell biology has never looked so yummy. Let’s just hope they got to eat them once they were finished!
