A long-standing tradition of Massanutten Military Academy is helping students reach their full potential. In addition to the regular curriculum during the school year and various summer programs, Massanutten has brought back their Colonel’s Camp: A Middle School Leadership Program for its second year to continue assisting students in reaching their full potential.
Colonel’s Camp is a leadership program that allows students in grades 6-8 to learn valuable skills that will prepare them for a successful high school career. Values such as character, leadership, responsibility, and service are the primary focus of this program and are reinforced daily throughout the four-week period. The values gained at Colonel’s Camp not only ensure students’ readiness for high school, but also increase their capacity for life-long learning.
A summer at Colonel’s Camp will contain classroom instruction in various subjects including U.S. and Military History, The Civil War, Close Order Drill and Military Customs and Courtesies. Campers will also be advised in Military Drill and Ceremonies including flag-raising and wreath laying.
In addition to the extensive classroom instruction, students will also be taken on several educational field trips throughout the four-week camp. While the field trips are an excellent learning opportunity and compliment the material taught in the classroom, they also are exciting and interactive for campers. Some of the trips include visits to the National Museum of the U.S. Marines, Air & Space Museum, Arlington National Cemetery, Mount Vernon, and more.
Massanutten Military Academy’s Colonel’s Camp is an excellent opportunity for middle school students to gain valuable skills, learn important history about the military and the U.S., and become better leaders.
