While summer break may seem like it’s all about taking a break and relaxing, it can actually be the perfect time to boost your student’s learning and leadership skills. Did you know over 11 million kids and adults attend some type of summer camp or program? Choosing a program that is worthwhile can be extremely beneficial in enhancing your child’s education.
One of our most popular summer programs offered at Massanutten Military Academy is our Colonel’s Camp. This is a leadership program specifically offered to middle school students in grades 6-8. Throughout the course of this summer camp, students will gain valuable skills that will prepare them as they advance into their high school careers. Values like the capacity for life-long learning are one of the primary focuses of this program.
Colonel’s Camp consists of classroom instruction in subjects such as U.S. History, Military History, The Civil War, Close Order Drill, and Military Customs and Courtesies. Campers will be exposed and trained in various aspects of Military Drill and Ceremonies, such as learning the proper art of flag-raising and wreath laying.
A typical day for our students at Colonel’s Camp begins with a review and study period needed for Cadet Recognition at MMA. Throughout the day, students will participate in local community service activities. These activities are designed to foster an understanding of the importance of giving back and helping others. Educational field trips will also be taken on a weekly basis during the program. Field Trip locations may include National Museum of the U.S. Marines, Air & Space Museum, Arlington National Cemetery, and Mount Vernon, Home of George Washington just to name a few.
Colonel’s Camp offers students an opportunity to develop deeper leadership skills, not only in their educational endeavors, but skills that will be beneficial for all facets of life. If you are looking to give your student the opportunity to become a better leader and citizen, consider Colonel’s Camp.
