From NFL tickets to kickball games and a food truck rodeo to a military parade, Massanutten Military Academy’s Homecoming Weekend 2019 has a little bit of everything for parents, alumni and students. And that doesn’t even include the Homecoming dance and dinner and alumni socials.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18TH:
Homecoming kicks off on Friday with a kickball game between the students and faculty at 10 a.m. Beginning at 11 a.m. alumni can get their morning dose of coffee at the Welcome Registration and then go on alumni tours from 1 to 3 p.m.. From 1 to 4 p.m. there will be parent-teacher conferences which will be followed by a PG Basketball Intrasquad scrimmage at Memorial Gym from 5 to 6 p.m. During halftime the 1986 football state VIC champions will be honored as will last year’s rifle team that won the state championship.Cadets and parents will enjoy a special Dinner Date at Cook & Kitchin Dining Hall that will start at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person. Friday will wrap-up with an Alumni Reception at the American Legion 199. Tickets are $20 for the reception.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19TH:
Saturday’s event kick into high gear with a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) meeting in the Spanier Library from 9 to 9:30 a.m., and alumni registration at 9 a.m. in the Hayes Activity Center. At 10 a.m., MMA’s Military Parade will commence in Bowman Stadium. The parade will happen rain or shine so prepare ahead of time in case of inclement weather. Brunch will follow the parade at 11 a.m. in Cook & Kitchin Dining Hall. During the meal, the color guard will perform and there will be a short presentation by Tanya Mazarowsk, PTO representative.The Food Truck Festival will begin at 1 p.m. in the parking area between Bowman Stadium and Main Street. There will be four local trucks to pick from offering pizza, tacos, bar-b-que, and sweets (shaved ice or hot cocoa depending on the weather). At 2 p.m. the Colonels football team will host the Warriors from St. Michael the Archangel. The game will also offer a chance for a big winner in the 50/50 raffle and a knock-out drill competition during halftime. After the football game, an Alumni Outreach Forum will be held in Spanier Library from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., cadets will enjoy the Homecoming Dinner & Dance in the Cook & Kitchin Dining Hall. This year’s theme is Sock Hop and tickets are $15 per person.While cadets enjoy the dance, MMA alumni are invited to a social at the Woodstock Brewhouse. Tickets are $20 each which come with two drink tokens as well as access to food provided by MMA. During the social, the winners of the Detroit Lions at the Washington Redskins game will be announced!
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20TH:
The weekend comes to a close on Sunday with a service in Lantz Chapel at 10 a.m. and a breakfast bar in the Hayes Activity Center following the service at 11 a.m.
