In recognition of October being Bully Prevention Month, MMA counselor, Amanda Olah, tasked each mentor group with a door decorating contest to represent bullying prevention. The rules were simple keeping the window and door handles clear, and the entire door had to be decorated in a theme. The cadets went straight to work on building the concept and then executing the design. Once the doors were completed, they were then judged on level of creativity, neatness, originality, matching the theme, the level of completeness, and following the safety guidelines. All of the mentor groups did an amazing job and everyone put in a lot of hard work. The winning team was Dr. Janet Arehart’s mentor group with a “man in the mirror” theme and second place went to Ms. Christine Blakely’s mentor group with a theme of “super hero”. Dr. Arehart’s winning mentor group will be treated to a yummy ice cream party!
Massanutten Military Academy is one of Virginia’s premier military academies. The focus at MMA is on character development, leadership, and service to help students develop to their fullest potential. Participating in the door decorating contest provides cadets the ability to work as a team, brainstorm, and apply critical thinking and execution that is learned in the classroom.
