The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is a mandatory credit class for our cadets in grades 9-12. Everyone begins in LET I (Leadership Education Training) in their first year, regardless of their grade level. We have full-credit classes available during the regular school year, and we are one of the few schools to offer these courses during our summer school program. The JROTC program does not commit you to any military service obligation.
MMA is also locally partnered with Shenandoah County High Schools to offer their students the chance to experience Army JROTC. Through this program the Central students form Charlie Company. Charlie Company wears traditional Army JROTC uniforms and follows JROTC policies and procedures. We currently have over 30 students taking advantage of this program. MMA has always strived to be a good community partner and this is one more way we can contribute to the local area.
We are an Honor Unit with Distinction, meaning we can recommend top cadets for nominations to the US Service Academies: the US Military Academy (West Point), the US Naval Academy, the US Air Force Academy, and the US Coast Guard Academy. Our on-staff military personnel and college advisor can guide you through the process of seeking an appointment and completing the admissions process.
In addition to nomination at the US Service Academies, our cadets receive specialized attention in applying for college, ROTC scholarships, state military colleges, and the US Merchant Marine Academy.
Extracurricular activities include Air Rifle team, Raider team, and JROTC Leadership Challenge and Academic Bowl.
JROTC curriculum includes:
- Foundations for Success
- Leadership Theory & Application
