As a cadet you will be given individual attention from faculty and staff. Through various academic and mentoring programs, our students learn to focus and work independently.
As a college preparatory school, we are committed to offering you expert guidance as you make your college selections, schedule testing, complete applications, and sort through acceptance letters. Even though we are a boarding school, parents are encouraged to become involved with this all important process. It is an exciting time and we are here to help!
Massanutten Military Academy has been ranked as #11 in the state of Virginia by the 2015 Private schools list. MMA not only outranked a number of traditionally prestigious schools, but it also was judged to have the best academics of any military school in the region.
Massanutten has also recently partnered with Susquehanna University on a Guaranteed Admission Program. Any MMA cadet who meets the specified criteria will be accepted to SU and will receive a 50% tuition reduction. Please contact Ms. Kim Post for further details.
Massanutten Military Academy has a robust STEM curriculum which allows the cadets to gain hands-on experience with tasks and experiments. As part of the Middle School Life Science Class this year, the cadets (comprised of 6th - 8th graders) began a garden.
Tuesday afternoon, twenty of our cadets were inducted into the National Art Honor Society. NAHS is an organization that recognizes students in good academic standing who show talent in an art. Many of our students displayed their artwork during our Founder's Day Weekend Academic Fair and received high praise from the parents and alumni present.
Here at Massanutten Military Academy, the class sizes average 10:1. The small size allows each class the opportunity to explore the subject matter more deeply and provides each cadet with more individualized instruction. Our highly trained faculty create an innovative learning environment where students can inquire and connect with the subject matter. High-achieving students also have the opportunity to take pare in Honors Courses in each level of English, Math, Science, and History. We also offer a Fine Arts Program, ESL (English as a Second Language), STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), SAT/ACT Preparation Classes, Advanced Placement Courses, Dual Enrollment Courses, and Vocational Programs.
Massanutten Military Academy offers 8 Advanced Placement classes: English, Chemistry, Physics, U.S. History, U.S. Government, Spanish, Calculus, and Biology. An Advanced Placement class is designed to offer high school students college-level curricula and examinations. Due to the intensity, cadets who take AP Classes receive 1 extra point towards their GPA.
By partnering with Lord Fairfax Community College, Massanutten Military Academy has the ability to offer Dual Enrollment Classes. Dual Enrollment Classes are designed to allow high school students to enroll in college courses for college credit prior to high school graduation. Generally, sophmores, juniors, and seniors are eligible for these classes. These courses are 1/2 a semester long and count as an elective credit towards graduation. These courses include English, Western Civilization I & II, Philosophy, Ethics, and Pre-Calculus.
“At the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, MMA had three STEM tracks for cadets to choose from- Biomedical, Computer Science and Engineering. Each track has 4 courses that allow cadets to think critically, collaborate, and explore new concepts. By the end of the 4th class, all cadets will have participated in an internship and developed a new product.
MMA is adding a new STEM track spring 2016- Energy and Environmental Studies. This STEM track will present cadets with environmental issues and encourage them to find solutions. By 2018, MMA will have cadets who have 4 years of STEM training. These cadets will receive a seal on their diplomas acknowledging completion of their chosen STEM track.
We look forward to adding on to the STEM program and reaping the benefits of a cadet corps with critical thinking skills and a huge advantage in the workforce!”
