Weekend Life and Activities
Cadets in good standing with the Academy may enjoy the many options available to them on the weekends. Downtown Woodstock is only a 5-minute walk from campus. Cadets can see a movie at the theater, eat at one of the restaurants, go bowling or enjoy the skating rink and arcade.
The Academy conducts on-campus activities each weekend, such as swimming, outdoor court sports, dances, inter-company athletic competitions and other group activities.
Off-campus trips offered to cadets include amusement parks, local caverns, battlefield tours, music or dramatic productions, professional or college athletic events, or Washington, D.C.'s attractions. Seasonal activities include horseback riding, golfing, camping, fishing, whitewater rafting or snow skiing.
Military Ball is held every year in the Spring. This event is the equivalent of a Prom in public high schools. Cadets, faculty and staff work hard to make this a special event.
Cadets also may participate in a variety of extracurricular clubs, including a Boy Scout troop and an 1860s living history (Civil War reenactment) group. These clubs take full advantage of the wonderful Shenandoah Valley and the nearby National Parks.
Cadets who remain on campus for the weekend are encouraged to attend a church service of their faith or are required to attend a character development class each Sunday morning.
