Weekend Life and Activities

Cadets in good standing with the Academy may enjoy the many options available to them on the weekends. Downtown Woodstock is only a 5-minute walk from campus. Cadets can see a movie at the theater, eat at one of the restaurants, go bowling or enjoy the skating rink and arcade.

The Academy conducts on-campus activities each weekend, such as swimming, outdoor court sports, dances, inter-company athletic competitions and other group activities.

Off-campus trips offered to cadets include amusement parks, local caverns, battlefield tours, music or dramatic productions, professional or college athletic events, or Washington, D.C.'s attractions. Seasonal activities include horseback riding, golfing, camping, fishing, whitewater rafting or snow skiing.

Military Ball
is held every year in the Spring. This event is the equivalent of a Prom in public high schools. Cadets, faculty and staff work hard to make this a special event.

Cadets also may participate in a variety of extracurricular clubs, including a Boy Scout troop and an 1860s living history (Civil War reenactment) group. These clubs take full advantage of the wonderful Shenandoah Valley and the nearby National Parks.

Cadets who remain on campus for the weekend are encouraged to attend a church service of their faith or are required to attend a character development class each Sunday morning.

European Educational Tour Scheduled for Spring Break 2010!

We are pleased to announce that, as part of our on-going effort to provide quality education, we are offering an educational tour to Europe, including Paris and Rome. We depart on March 26 and return on April 3, 2010. This program provides a wonderful opportunity for students, friends, and family members to enjoy the variety of different cultures.

We will be traveling with Euro-American Tours, who specialize in custom itineraries that are safe, rewarding and fun. They have gained a 30-year reputation for dependability so you can be assured of top rate accommodations, professional tour directors and personal service. Naturally, ample local references are available.

We have an exciting trip planned in Paris and Rome. The itinerary includes many fantastic sites. Please see the enclosed brochure for a more detailed look at your exciting destinations. These cities offer experiential lessons in history, religion, literature, music, art, and architecture.

The discounted tour price for your itinerary if payments are made by check or cash is $2,985.00. The standard non-discounted price, applicable when paying by credit card, is $3,085.00. Tour price includes roundtrip airfare from Washington, D.C., point-to-point transportation between cities, all hotels, and guided tours. In addition to guided sightseeing, there will also be time for personal exploration and shopping. This will certainly prove to be a highlight in your students' lives.

Send in your application and a $500 non-refundable deposit as soon as possible. Don't delay as space on the tour is limited and payment deadlines are fast approaching. Plus, you can receive a FREE ascent of the Eiffel Tower in Paris if your deposit is postmarked by October 2, 2009! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Joe Babcock, Dirctor of Activities, at (540)459-2167 ext.263 or Euro-American Tours directly at 1-800-989-3876.
