Learning Support Program (LSP)
MMA’s new Learning Support Program offers individual assistance well beyond the classroom, particularly for cadets with mild learning disabilities and differences, such as ADHD. Cadets need not have diagnosed learning issues/needs to be enrolled in the program.
Supervised by the Director of Counseling Services (Mrs. Burnett) and the Academic Dean (Mr. Sinnathamby), selected teachers serve as academic counselors to help cadets develop sound organizational skills, study habits, test-taking techniques, and computer technology to enhance learning.
Cadets enrolled in the Learning Support Program (LSP) meet with their academic counselors for the equivalent of a full period in the academic schedule. (Cadets in upper school are allowed to count this work as the equivalent of a “study skills” course credit toward graduation requirements.)
As needed, counselors also meet with their cadets individually during the evening study period (ESP – 8 to 9:30 p.m.), Monday through Thursday.
Each cadet in LSP is assigned to one teacher/counselor who monitors the cadet’s completion of assignments and ensures regular communication between the cadet’s parents and teachers.
- Each academic counselor works with no more than five cadets at a time.
To enroll a cadet in LSP, complete and submit this form to the Dean’s Office by fax (540-459-5421) or by email (academics@militaryschool.com). Or call the Dean’s Office at 540-459-2167, x 264.
Cost for enrollment in LSP is $600 per quarter or a discounted rate of $2000 if paid in August for the entire school year.
