Cadets Plan Future Coursework, College Decisions
posted 19 May 2008

On Saturday, May 17th cadets attended the MMA Spring Academic Planning Day. The day’s events provided an intense follow up to the Fall Academic Planning Day that was held on Saturday, September 1st. Cadets again took the Kuhlman-Anderson standardized test. The main goal of the activity is to see how much the cadets have improved their math and English skills over the course of the academic year.

Following the test, cadets in grades seven through eleven reviewed their academic roadmaps with their mentors. Parents received the roadmaps electronically during spring break.

While underclassmen met with their mentors, seniors participated in a graduation and college review session. In addition to preparing for the year’s closing events, seniors learned about key financial, social, and academic decisions that they will need to make during their college years.

MMA ESL Students Excel on Language Test posted 19 May 2008

During the Spring Academic Planning Day, MMA’s ESL students focused on taking the SLEP test rather than the Kuhlman-Anderson test. The Secondary Level English Proficiency (SLEP®) test measures nonnative speakers' listening and reading comprehension abilities. Our ESL students took the exam at the beginning of the school year and at the mid-term point of the year, as well.

While scores showed great improvement in January, they showed even greater proficiency in the weekend testing. September scores ranged from 8% to 65%; whereas, the May 17th scores ranged from 77% to 94% proficiency. ESL Instructor, Mrs. TL Garrison, applauded her cadets’ success: “They’ve been working so hard. I’m very proud of them!”

MMA Girls Softball Team
2008 Cavalier Athletic Conference
CHAMPIONS!!! posted 9 May 2008

Congratulations to the 2008 MMA Girls Softball Team on their 11-8 Win over the Number 1 seeded and defending conference champions Mt. View!!! The Softball team lost to Mt. View early in the regular season, but showing their determination they proved themselves champions Thursday.  Our hats off to you for a job well done, you worked hard and you all earned it.

On the other side the Boys Baseball team fell to SVA in a very good ball game, 7-0, A game that was 1-0 until the 4th inning and could have gone either way. The boys did MMA Proud and showed a lot of class. For the members of the team that were here last year it was tough losing in the championship 2 years in a row. Good Job.

Make sure if you see any of these players both the boys and the girls give them a pat on the back for doing MMA sports proud once again, taking the field in the purple and gold of MMA and doing it with class and outstanding sportsmanship.

Great Job

2nd Blue Ridge 79
3rd MMA 5
