Preparing Today's Teenagers to Be Tomorrow's Leaders

MMA  JROTC  Drill Team  2007-2008

Coach: SGM James Helms

High Schools and Military Schools with JROTC programs often compete against other schools, similar to other athletic programs in Drill competitions.  Drill Competitions are comprised of several team events and several individual events which evaluate the sharp, crisp, and smooth movements and execution of commands as a team or individual.

Drill Team Competitions consist of both individual and team events. The team events are both squad and platoon level events, as well as Color Guard.  Events include armed and unarmed drill. The leaders for these events must memorize all commands IN SEQUENCE. Any deviation from the sequence or commands left out result in loss of points. Additionally, the drill areas are pre-measured, and the teams must not violate any boundaries, with a loss of points if a violation happens. Each member of the team is observed for the slightest degree of drill movements which are not in accordance with the drill manual, Field Manual 3-21.5, Drill and Ceremonies. Any movement (marching or stationary) which is not in accordance with the manual results in lost points. Points are awarded on a scale of 1-5 for each movement. There are usually 35-40 movements for each event. Each competition usually includes 15-20 teams, with trophies awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.
